Blood Work

White cells elevated
Red cells down
It’s always something with the cells

Vitimin B is stable now
Vamp up the vitamin D
I need a new pill box, larger than before.

Cholestrol lowered
Bad cholesterol down
Somethings working besides diet

Blood work is always an enigma
Though doctor says it’s a story
This book must be a mystery.

Self Talk

(The Blues)

I didn’t work out again today
Oh, I didn’t work out again today
Someone says just do it, but it wasn’t me, hey!

I don’t know where my will power is
Now, I just don’t know where my willpower is.
No, I’m gumming and eating like nobodies biz!

I just come down on myself well enough
Yes, I come down on myself well enough
I’m not settling nothing, life’s  always been tough!

I think I’ll get up now and go to the gym
I think I’ll get up now and go to the gym
Especially now that my excuses look dim!

Precious One

You live too far away
for me to watch you grow
except for photographs
sent by your mom
and grandma, too.

I know why they call
you a great granddaughter
because that is what you are
I long to hold you
get to know you
and you know me, too.

I'll train myself to get used
to longing for you each day.
I'll see your face from a photo
on my wall. I'll remember
your smile, your smell,
the feel of you in my arms
until I hold you again.

Maybe Tomorrow

I want to write
about my daughters,
my husband, my dog,
my son, always my son,
so I might feel that brief peace,
the trip I want to take.
my sunset days,
about the great people,
     ordinary people I have met,
the way the soil smells
     after a rain and I’m
     picking weeds, how it feels
to go to the mailbox and see
     something personal for me,
to peruse my email and see
     a chatty note from family
     or friend, what my husband's
arms feel like to my essence
or whatever it is deep down
     where I can’t reach, perhaps
even that place where I go
to bathe in light and consciousness,
or about foods that are
     delicious and filling,
how it is to write and know when
     someone else gets it, when
     someone else is interested,
how the flowers in a field
     make me want to blossom
     right there with them, especially
if they are yellow or red,
what it feels like to paint,
     create something that has
meaning, and I will write all this
maybe tomorrow with all my ability
     and resources, belief and creativity
that will burst open and lay itself
down on my page.

Nottingham Drive, Tampa, Florida

Another postcard perfect Florida day here in Tampa.
The sun’s a spotlight on the trees and shrubs, showing
off the new growth, new life green that emboldens
our senses and lightens our burdens if we take notice.

This time of year I have to go home and take a break
for there is so much to take in, so much to do. I want
to see and taste it all, not miss a single drop of life
that presence itself on Nottingham Drive and beyond.

What Got Me Here?

What got me here

is chance and hard turns
graces, bad luck, and blessings
working against the grain
death, life, tragedy, beauty
laughter, sobs, facing the fears
writing, painting, loving, giving
being loved, held, respected
contemplation and chance meetings.
sense of balance and nonsense
coasting and landing hard
pain, joy, passions, and grasps.

That’s what got me here.
What will it take
to get me further still?

NaPoWriMo

The month of April is National Poetry Month (NaPoWriMo) .  I will be writing a poem a day (goal) and posting them.
Happy Poetry Month to my poet and writer friends.
