Deluge

Sit with me in one of the front porch rockers.
Black wood slats fit our backs and the soft
red cushions contrast (and make you smile).
Have a glass of wine with me or a cup of coffee
while we watch the rain slant down off the roof,
and splashes onto the bark, displaces the moss,
runs through the gutters, and settles round us  like a
a symphony. Smokey gray clouds bring on the automatic lights
and the perfume of newly mowed grass surrounds us.
I’m glad you stopped by for the show.

From my childhood on, there is nothing I enjoy more than a good deluge! Cleansing, refreshing, like being born again is how a rainstorm makes me feel. The smell, the image of raindrops pelting the earth, hitting my windows, I don't even mind driving in it .... I guess you get how I'm feeling. Loved your poem!!!

Loved the atmosphere you created here. The idea of watching a storm from a place of safety whilst drinking coffee is a very comforting image.

This takes me back to my grandma and me, sitting in her back porch, listening to the thunderstorms on summer afternoons. How she loved them!
