Tradition

Celebrations, ceremonies, and traditions
have passed down to help us revel in the joys
of life. They help us to deal with the sadness,
grief, and disappointments.

We celebrate a new life, and every age
until death. We have ceremonies for
weddings, funerals, and every achievement
and happening in between.

Ceremonies and celebrations become
traditions that will mark our beginnings
and our endings and enrich our lives.

Beautiful poem, Judy. Yes, celebrations, ceremonies, traditions root us with our past, root us through our future.

Judy, you have a nice approach here, and it's so true. I used to bristle at formal celebrations, but now I realize they have their place in our lives. Thanks for making this come to life for me! Amy

I remember some lecturer once defining humans as "the animal who builds traditions". I do think we need them at some core basic level which you caught well in this poem.

I haven't done a lot of celebrating of late, but I do think your point that celebrations are important is well made. I am going to try...again.

It brings to mind when, "Tevye" sings "Tradition". One of my favorite musical numbers of all time.
