Laundry Meditation

(Prompt from We Write Poems, "I do my laundry when…")

I do the laundry
to contemplate or meditate,
am sad or glad.  My hands
are busy, my mind on hold.

I love the fragrance.
Takes me back to clothesline
days, soft towels and crisp
white sheets whip dancing
to the breezes in sun filled days.

Fold now, then stow away
in closets and dressers,
placement acts as comforter
to ragged, jagged thoughts.
Here is something I can do
when I can’t do anything else.

"Here is something I can do
when I can’t do anything else" Good point! I'm afraid I am more of a slacker when it comes to doing laundry! Here is what I did with that prompt: http://agnija-b.blogspot.com/2011/04/doing-laundry-napowrimo-10.html

Lovely....comforting and sensual....could smell the freshness and feel that sense of well- being that comes from being bake to bring order to a too often otherwise chaotic world....

Monday is laundry day for me, and I always look forward to it. The mindlessness of the task is a blessing. Like you, I embrace the opportunity for a moving meditation.

Judy,
A most wonderful poem with which I can share your thoughts.
I too enjoy my thoughts, while ironing especially!!!

Good Luck with your laundry thoughts,
Eileen

Even though I hate doing the washing, I really enjoyed your poem. There was a gentle sense of inner peace which resonated from every line.

Routine jobs can have that soothing effect when minds are in a whirl...
