There Came A Day

There came a day when we knew happily ever after
wasn’t going to happen, when all the fairy tales,
dreams and hopes went the way of Santa Claus.
The life we never believed would happen, did.

We became disillusioned people who held
slivered heart in hand and began to live life
to get through another day. We were robbed
of the joy, hope, and experiences that nurtures
belief in a future full of good, right and just.

There came a day when reality set in and we
found out what raw pain, shattered innocence,
death of dreams, and disillusionment felt like.
We lived as though we were going to find
the life we lost, we still do. Hear us cry out
we believe, we really do.

Such a raw and honest poem, that ends with hope despite the pain. You are an amazing person.

Wow, do I ever relate to this poem. Yes, we did realize at some point it wasnt at all going to be the way we dreamed. The miracle is we continue on with hope and good cheer anyway - I love this poem, it really speaks to me! Especially "Hear us cry out we believe, we really do." Wonderful!

Wow, Judy. Really this is one of your recent poems that I like the best. It is a painful poem, but an honest one. From the 'gut.' These are the kinds of poems (of anyone's) I like the best, those that make me FEEL.

Sad but honest. I think these lines say it all: We became disillusioned people who held slivered heart in hand and began to live life to get through another day.

These days do come, no matter how we may try to hide from them.

I can relate to this very well.

It is heartbreaking to see your dreams shatter into millions of smithereens and trying to pick up discarded pieces is even more painful. It really hurts and this sentiment has come out beautifully in your poem.

You made me feel it, Judy!
The beauty is this: There will be another day to create in a new way. Always.

This post gets to the collapse of dreams. You've hit a universal chord, and strummed into something...wow! Well done.

Wow, this one is like a punch in the stomach. You describe the feeling of disillusionment so well-like a waking nightmare. You know this is your life now but somehow keep hoping that you'll wake up and it will all be a dream.

This poem grabs me in the first line, and I think I'd like to hold the first phrase and last together...

There came a day... (there always does)

and

We believe, we really do. (I feel that's always there too).

It's a lovely poem, full of feeling.

Ok, I've definately had these moments. Really enjoyed your poem. I especially like this part:

"We became disillusioned people who held
slivered heart in hand and began to live life
to get through another day. "

Thankfully seem to move into the hope part, as in your poem. Nice!

Judy,
It was indeed the day of 'the rude awakening', when reality hit....
So often, so true.

Best wishes, Eileen
