Loneliness Exposed

To be by myself
Would be the next best thing
To having what I have…
The man I love by my side.

When my dear friend
Left her nightmare of a mate
She couldn’t wait
To share the name of another man.

My mom listened to me
Lament how I couldn’t understand
Why one would rush into another’s arms
When she could be alone and enjoy her space.

Mom’s stare stopped me mid-sentence
My dad passed away five years ago
She said that’s because you’ve never been alone.
the light bulb went on.

Excellent Judy. This flows so well and that gives even more strength to the ending.

Yes, I know there are women that do just that.....and men too. I just don't understand that, but what do I know!

I felt the same way. I loved solitude until I had it all the time.

I think being by ourselves is good, but it also a choice to be with someone you love and who appreciates you ~

very well crafted.the poise, balance and antithetical flow of the lines creates an excellent effect.

Judy,

I guess that being alone when one has lost the only true love, is perhaps best. Knowing that you can never replace the one that has passed.
However, being alone can also extend the loneliness..I think that we are all entitled to have companionship too.

I really enjoyed this poem, Judy, and could see the look on your mother's face clearly, through your words.

That mom. So wise. So right. Makes us think twice about judgment, doesn't she?!

Nicely written poem that says so much. Sometimes we cannot know, truly, until we have arrived. Commenting from Poetry Pantry.

It's always wise to keep those moccasins ready for a walk.
