Blank Slate

Every day I wake up to that blank page, a free canvas.
Sometimes I splash my canvas with sunshine
by opening the blinds to let the beauty begin,
snuggle closer to my husband, share the same beginning
all wrapped in light white cotton sheets.
We slowly wake up to the feel of this gift.

A cup of coffee, Bold for him and JamaicaMeCrazy
begins my day.  We are different in every way,
starting with our coffee choices, but both so alike.
We clink our cups in ritual and make our pact.
To a good day, and it will be that, I have all the ingredients.
Love, good health, friendship, and a nice blank page
with the beauty of sunshine and words of beginning.

We go to our side by side desks this early morning.
He looks at the news; I pull up my writing and work
so I can claim my price…time on Facebook and email.
Honestly, the writing often comes last but I still try for order,
try not to hear the beckoning to other things.

On this, another blank page that sits ready for me to form
it into life, I feel the power as creator of verse.
I am the writer, so I fill my pages with thoughts and stanzas.
Soon it’s full of jet black words that make the page
full and rich and this is just the start. I am filled
with accomplishment and satisfaction when Bill walks
back into my life around 7p.m. I can go on to other things.

You really know how to get the day off to a good start and to fill each "page" to the max. Happy NaPoWriMo.

I love the start of your day and how you talk about filling the pages. Thank you too for all your comments on my blog. I love that you are doing the poem a day!
