He’s my hero from the day I met him
He’s muscular, tall, and brave.
He’s made a career and then a business
He works hard for all those he loves.
He has a good heart, he loves God and
earth’s people. His net reaches wide and high.
He’s a giant among men of morals, he’s
true, loving and kind.
But he’s also a broken being. He’s saddled
with a horrific loss. His son died in his prime.
He sits at the gravesite and weeps. It’s been
eleven years now, but he grieves for his only son.

Those fractures are present in all of us, though this is a particularly hard one. Strong, but broken, he continues on.
A strong poem, Judy. It shows how sometimes one's exterior does not outwardly show the broken-ness that is below the surface. However, I think he is one who has gone on despite his loss, refused to be totally beaten down, to make a good life for himself and others he cares about.
Wow Judy. This is heart-breaking. Hard to believe it has really been that long. Hugs to you and Bill.
A sad poem about a good man and a tragic loss. They say tears help to mend.
This is so sad...death of a loved one can break even the strongest of men.
Happy sunday and hugs ~
I am sorry.
Not everything is how it seems. This poem is a perfect example of that. Thanks for sharing it.
Wow this is a moving piece. To me it shows strength and wisdom at the same time it shows vulnerability. Although the poem is melancholy I feel it has a twinge of hope. Well done and thank you for allowing me to read it.
Grief is something that never leaves. Sometimes it gets easier or harder. The warmth (and at times the cold glare) of life blows on...but grief is always there.
Thanks for sharing.
Were all a bit broken, in our own ways...
Were never supposed to lose our children first...
*hugs to you*
