No News

I haven’t read the paper
Don’t get the news
Won’t turn on the radio
For fear of hearing
Another catastrophe
A slanted view
Politics or the latest
War. I’m better off
Not knowing.

I’m better off
Not seeing
The headlines
That tells me there
Is another earthquake
In Japan, Donald Trump
Is running for President
Government shutdown
And Charley Sheen has
Found another goddess
For his stable.

Nothing I can do about
Any of it and it puts
Me on the downward spiral
I get enough bad news
Through osmosis, phone
Calls, email, and my
Husbands evening banter.
Enough.

Judy,
I agree with your words. Sometimes it is just too much. I avoid it all!

While listening with one ear uncovered, of course!!

I know how you feel! Sometimes that front page doesn't get opened, I'm afraid.

We must have been on the same wavelength, Judy...having written similar poems a day apart. I hadn't read yours before I wrote mine...I was using a different prompt, yet we touched a same and similar things. WOW...as they say, "Put it out there..."

A mans perspective. Keeping up with the happenings is important. That way I can brace myself for the next calamity.Balance though.

For the most part, I ingnore 'news' like the plague. By the time 'news' filters to us, it's already happened anyway, and we can change nothing! :)
