I'd Like To Believe

Written for We Write Poems. I used a line from the lyrics of Fireflies by Owl City.

I’d like to make myself believe
that life carries on just as it has
for millions of years and more,
with no harm from me, no help.

I’d like to make myself believe
that love conquers all and overcomes
the darkness felt by all of us,
with few exceptions, light prevails.

I’d like to make myself believe
that life here is a beginning
I will see my loved ones again
feel their embrace, their presence.

I’d like to make myself believe
that the waters flow and the
mountains hold, the creator
of all of it is at the helm.

This is a beautiful poem, Judy. My favorite verse is the last one...with the 'creator of all of it is at the helm.'

I'm sure life will carry on just like before; constantly adapting, changing and using its environment.

I like the first stanza's meters-- the quoted line is hard steps and sounds, k, f, b, v then you come in with lilting trisyllables and variations.

Judy, your poem is beautiful. I like the second verse....in spite of the darkness, light prevails!

I see passion and faith in your poem. This takes the poem to a realm of its own. Thanks for sharing.

I like the repetition of that beginning line and how it constantly reflexes back on the issue of belief and faith. Welcome to We Write Poems, and hope you enjoy the interaction here.

You've constructed a very wholesome universe.

Thank you Judy for participating. I like to think poems as skipping stones, each bouncing, reflecting some part of us, then settling in not too far away, ready for another in hand. Steps to next and next and next.

And participation begins that light we all appreciate, so both my thanks and welcome here.
