Fishing in Paradise

Bob’s taking him fishing
I know it has to be true
he’s showing him how to be patient
for that nibble on the line.

Brian could have been a fisherman,
I could tell that right away. His
Uncle Bob took him on his boat
to fish that very first day.

Brian caught one small fish, we knew
he was hooked. He wrote in his fourth
grade journal, “The First Time I Felt
Like A Man” was when I went fishing

with my Uncle and I caught that bass
.
Now they are fishing in paradise, he’s
learning from the best. I close my eyes
and I see them, fishing on Heaven’s lake.

This is a beautiful poem, Judy. I do trust Heaven has a lake and that Bob and Brian ARE fishing there.

When my father comes to me in dreams, he is always in his fishing gear. I trust that image. Your poem is soft and loving, like the memories that drive it. Thank you for sharing,

Elizabeth

I love it that Brian 'felt like a man, for the first time'. I remember Bob and how much he fished (and golfed). I have had fantastic luck with fishing... just like my mother. In any case a very poignant poem.
