Memory glimpses – stark,
the scene, bare trees,
dormant, death reaching up.
Grass, just shreds of itself,
green gone, done, dark,
dead.
I said Mama, the grass died.
Heart sick, I look to her.She said not dead, it comes
back. Years of winter disbelief -
but spring came and I did
see.
I live in a place where grass
does not die, doesn’t give up,where trees leaf all year.
Hope of Spring comes,
brings expectation. I wait
for winter to give up.
I wait for my son to come
home.

Judy, it IS heartening that most living things do return in due season. Dormant grass again greens. Trees gain leaves again.
Oh, that the same would be true of our loved ones as well. Hugs to you, Judy. And love.
This picture does speak deeply of loss, as does your writing, Judy. Thank you for trusting us with your words.
Oh Judy--how cruel the world is when someone you love dies. Cruel spring that gives one that hope. Hugs.
I couldn't see the picture but the poem is beautiful
Sorry about not adding the photo. I can't get photos on my blog any more. Will have to research that glitch a bit. Used to be so easy.
Sad Judy. Poignant. I wish life always circled back. i wish winter would give up.
Poignant yet beautiful.
That yearning, though it wanes, never dies. You give the fact a beautiful vehicle in this poem, Judy.
Heartbreaking. So beautifully captured in your poem. That hope returns is what we lean toward.
Charcoal days - what an apt description of winter.......so poignant, your closing line.
Charcoal days..such a fitting title for winter. Everything has a season..and we yearn for spring...love how you ended it.
We take a lesson form mother nature..and guess what? Spring is coming!!!! Wooohoooo! Great backdrop to a super positive line of thought. Loved it.
...I clicked on "Brian" at the bottom as I felt the poem eluded to something more... I have six children and hold each very dear to my heart. Two boys. Just wanted you to know your photos and poems touched my heart.
