Our journey is set, we have everything
we need; our way is mapped out. We don’t
see the mountain ahead until we crash
head on into it. All of a sudden we are climbing.
scared and alone,
injured
and without a compass. We toughen up orwe die. We can give up or keep going but
we'll never be the same carefree wanderers we were.
We will bear these scars forever.
One day we find ourselves on the other sideof that range and though the steps are easier, we
are forever changed. We know now
that the road may be smooth, the scenes
serene; but tomorrowthere could be another mountain,
an ocean to cross, or a valley to traverse.

Yes Judy. This poem is right. You write as one who has "seen the elephant". We can't know tomorrow.
So true, Judy. We don't see the mountains well when we are on the flat land. After we encounter them we have to find our way to survive. It is the only choice we have.
Lovely metaphor Judy. The way you wrote this pulled me right in. So many have to learn to hike those steep trails--and the experience makes you stronger if it doesn't kill you.
Excellent, Judy.
Very strong poem, Judy. Such a lesson for each of us to live each day the best we can. We just never know. I've seen you traverse that mountain and you've become a stronger woman with each step.
I have to confess that I look forward to the day when there are no more mountains, oceans or valleys!
such is life but I must admit I dream of a day when there re no obstacle to over come
This is one of your best, Judy, a testamant to living and learning.
Judy,
Such is the journey and many paths of life, upon which we find ourselves. Sometimes prepared, and more often not.
An excellent piece of writing.
Thank you for your visit to my Blog and your kind comments.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger for sure.
One day at a time is the way to go... :)
