Bullied

He couldn’t wait to have a child
To be the boss of someone
After being bossed all his young life.

He talked about how he would discipline him
He wouldn’t raise a brat
His kids would know how to act.

No one questioned him, it was just talk
There's no way a mother would choose
A man like that to father her child.

Baby Jake was tiny but not to worry
He states, I’ll toughen him up in no time
No mamby-pamby for my son!

He couldn’t attend the funeral
When his son died
He’d spend his life now being bullied by his peers.

Wow, what a heart-wrenching poem! Bullying always has consequences that can reach far beyond the original incidents.

Gripping Judy. Just heart-breaking to think how this kind of thing goes from generation to generation--until a generation doesn't make it.

So heartbreaking, Judy. I can just imagine poor Jake's life (and death) with this bully of a father.

Sad how some people feel entitled to treat children the way they were treated, rather than breaking the mold.
Excellent written powerful and sad poem.

In some cases, the cycle just goes on and on....it's beyond sad, so tragic, poor little Baby Jake. And to think this stuff goes on daily. Good poem, Judy, highlighting the heartbreak and sometimes utter futility of all of this.

Yes, all too often the cycle is repeated ... your interpretation of the prompt was sobering ... and well written.

Now THIS is an aspect of bullying that is often over looked. Way to go for writing this. It packs a punch. It does its job.

I am reminded of the Victorian father....and of George Fifth who said "I was scared of my father and my son's going to be scared of me!'

It is so sad, so unfortunate, such the opposite of love. Written so thoughtfully.
